Confession under the Umbrella

The sound of rain drops hitting the grey pavement could be heard throughout the city as citizens carried their umbrellas trying to find shelter until the heavy rainfall ceases. It had been raining for close to an hour now since Tenten has been waiting for her ride to come. A frown could be seen plastered on her facial features while standing by the front door of the small café.

"Still waiting?"

She turned around to see Sai. He works at the café as a waiter. Tenten has been at the café so many times that she and Sai have practically formed a bond with each other over the past year. He is a very pale man, no older than she is—twenty-three, and quite tall. Despite his pasty skin tone, Sai is very attractive with quite the well-toned body.

Tenten nodded. "It's amazing how he is always on time with everything except picking me up." She said, referring to Neji. The male Hyuuga has been her best friend since the age of twelve. Neji has always been slightly cold and indifferent to many things but it didn't change the fact that he has always been there for her when she needed him. However, he did have a bad habit of being late.

Sai chuckled. "It's pouring out there. Plus this is rush hour meaning he is probably stuck in traffic." He took a long pause. "If you want…I could perhaps take you home?"

Her eyes widened at his offer. She didn't know if she should accept his offer or not. God forbid Neji finally makes it to the café only to see that she isn't there. He'd kill her. But she has never time any time alone with Sai before and this would be a good opportunity for her to finally have one on one time with him. "S-Sure, but I have to call Neji to tell him." She blushed.

"Okay, just let me clock out and we can leave."

Tenten watched as Sai disappeared behind the door leading to the back of the café. Sighing, she pulled out her cell phone scrolling down the list of her contacts. Pressing the key for Neji's name, she called the male Hyuuga.

Hello?

She bit down on her bottom lip nervously. "Um Neji, you don't have to pick me up anymore. Sai is going to give me a ride home." Silence ensued for a couple of seconds until she could hear Neji's deep voice let out a tiresome sigh.

I see. Are you going to tell him?

Neji is one of the only people who know about her ongoing crush on Sai. Luckily, he hasn't told anyone and actually has tried to encourage her to confess. But being the shy girl that she is whenever she's around him, the confession has yet to happen.

"I'm not sure yet…" She whispered.

It's been a year now, Tenten. How much longer do you want to wait until you say something? Look, either tell him or hide it forever. It's your choice. I have to go now. Talk to you later.

She pouted at how rude and deflated Neji's tone sounded before he hung up. "He's so insensitive." She muttered angrily.

"Who is insensitive?"

Tenten looked up to see Sai wearing a long black trench coat, staring down at her with a blank expression but the curiosity lurked between his eyes. Shaking her head rather furiously, Tenten waved her hand in front of her face. "It's no one."

Sai raised his brow up at her odd behavior but said nothing more. "Shall we go?" At seeing her nod, he guided her towards the front entrance of the door but stopped staring out the rainfall. "Do you have an umbrella?"

"No, I didn't think it was going to rain today. So I didn't think to carry one with me."

"It's okay. We can share mine." He looked down at her smiling warmly.

The smile was like no other she has seen before. Sai tends to not smile coming from the heart. It always appeared to be forced, as if he is trying too hard. But this smile reached his eyes. It caused her heart skip a beat. Quickly looking away from him Tenten nodded her head.

Opening the door leading the female outside the café, Sai snapped his umbrella opened wrapping his arm around her smaller frame. It wasn't something that she was expecting but welcomed the warm touch accompanied by a dark crimson blush by her.

The car ride wasn't long, only taking around fifteen minutes to arrive in front of her apartment building. The two sat in the car in silence. Both wanting to speak but was too nervous to initiate a conversation. The only sound that could be heard is the water falling on the car.

Turning her head slowly, Tenten gazed at Sai. "Um…I have something that I would like to tell you."

"What is it?"

She shifted in her seat, unable to meet his penetrating stare. "For quite some time now…I've held feelings for you. I really like you. I like you a lot."

His eyes widened in shock. "Y-You…like me?"

She nodded.

He couldn't believe his ears. "This is so—"Before he even had a chance to even attempt to respond back to her, she fled the car. Not wanting to let this moment escape him so quickly, Sai immediately jumped out of the car with his umbrella in hand, rushing to get to her before she entered the building.

Grabbing her by her arm, Sai turned the dark brown haired female around pulling her close against his chest as he opened the umbrella. "Why did she you run off like that?" He whispered deeply.

Although the sound of the rain was loud, it didn't drown out Sai's deep voice from Tenten's ears. Slowly lifting her head, her honey brown eyes landed on his black orbs. "I-I…I don't know. I guess I'm afraid…"

"Afraid of what?"

"Of rejection."

He smiled sadly. "Don't be." Sai leaned forward, his eyes narrowed as he pressed his lips against hers. By his eyes still being slightly opened, he could see the shock within her own but he soon closed his eyes once she returned the kiss.

The two continued to share a sweet but yet innocent kiss under the umbrella while standing in the rain.

Sai broke the kiss, "Because I like you too." He smiled, pressing his forehead against hers.

"Sai…"

"Come on let's get out of this rain before you catch a cold." He smiled softly. Pulling back from her, Sai extended his hand out to her as she graciously placed her hand into his.

Glancing up at him, Tenten knew that she and Sai would become even closer than what they were before, all because of the confession under the umbrella.
